Go Max Go Thumbs Up Candy Bar

Every year there are a couple Vegan products that I eagerly anticipate. Obviously, candy is going to be high on my list of must-haves. Because if you can have excellent Vegan candy, it's just a matter of time before the world turns Vegan. Last year I went gaga over the Go Max Go Foods Cleo's and Snap! Bars, which are the Vegan versions of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Nestle Crunch. And earlier this year I heard rumblings of a Vegan Butterfinger and I've kept my eyes peeled ever since. Well, just the other day, Vegan Essentials finally put them up for sale and I bought 100 (not really). So, what do I think?

As you can see, the Thumbs Up is round like a cigar (or a thumb!) It definitely has the "Butterfinger crunch" that you remember. You know, the peanut buttery part that gets stuck to your back teeth? It has been reproduced faithfully. What I noticed taste-wise was the strong peanut butter flavor and a resounding sweetness. I personally would have liked it a little less sweet. I never thought I would say this, but it seems the excessive sugar takes away from the chocolate. I also would have liked to see a thicker chocolate coating.

Overall I enjoyed the Thumbs Up Candy Bar. It seems a little too sweet for me but I love how crunchy it is and the rounded shape is cute. If you miss Butterfingers, you should definitely give it a try. Now do Go Max Go a favor and tell them in the comments what candy you would like to see them Veganize next! Vegan Kit Kat anyone?

New Go Max Go Bars: Snap! and Cleo's

I've been anticipating the new candy bars from Go Max Go for some time, and was I elated when they arrived a couple days ago. Snap! is comparable to a Nestle Crunch and Cleo's is a Vegan relative to the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. I'm really excited to see what Go Max Go comes up with next. Now comes my favorite part...snack time!

The Snap! bar faithfully retains the Nestle Crunch's signature crunch with ease. Yummy rice milk chocolate you've come to expect from Go Max Go, plus crisped rice. Snap! easily breaks into nice square pieces so you can share, if you're feeling generous. Nomz!

Cleo's emulates my childhood favorite, Resse's Peanut Butter Cup and does so without a hitch. Splendid PB and chocolate in a two delicious cups. When I got them in the mail from Cosmo's Vegan Shoppe I noticed the cups were a tad mushy. All you have to do is throw them in the freezer for an hour or two and they're fine. I'm going to go on record and say these are my favorite Go Max Go bars and I can't wait for what's next!

And last but not least, congrats to Belinda Morris of Melbourne, Australia. Belinda won the Laziest Vegans Facebook contest for the person who lives the furthest away from me (over 9200 miles!). She won a free Snap! and Cleo's bar. Enjoy, Belinda! Look for more contests on Facebook in the future.

Justin's Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

In art class in Junior High we had to draw packaging of some kind. My fellow students drew things ranging from Pepsi cans to Cheetos bags. I chose to draw a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup package. I loved them to death and I still miss Reese's to this day. A couple months ago a friend suggested I try Justin's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. I've tried Justin's stuff before so I had a good feeling it would be good.

Shocker: I loved them! It's nice to indulge in PB cups once again. The chocolate is dark so it's going to be slightly bitter compared to milk chocolate but I like the contrast with the sweet PB. Find these puppies at Whole Foods nationally and Caffeine Dreams if you are here in the OMA. On a side note Go Max Go is working on a PB cup so even more reason to be excited!

The Go Max Go Bars Laziest Vegans Taste Test!

Back once again with the Laziest Vegans Taste Test! This time we tackle the world famous Go Max Go Bars. These candy bars took the Vegan world by storm last year and they haven't looked back. They're facsimiles of everyone's favorite non-Vegan bars: Almond Joy, Three Musketeers, Snickers and Milky Way. Our esteemed panel of food connoisseurs have sampled and reviewed each bar thoroughly. Joining me for this candy bar rendezvous is Jenny K, Dave Laser, Princess Lasertron and Veganette. Let see the results shall we?

Mahalo:
Jenny K- ...mmm....I love the coconut-chocolaty-ness.
Dave Laser- Oh god I used to love Almond Joy! A very sufficient doppelganger!
Princess Lasertron- I don't really like coconut but this is super good. Love the nuts.
Veganette- Satisfies all of my coconut macaroon needs.
Me- These are good and different but I couldn't eat them all the time.

Buccaneer:
Jenny K- Great flavor, but really chewy.
Dave Laser- Caramel overload, but in a good way.
Princess Lasertron- Caramel chocolaty! A little too gummy for me.
Veganette- This is my favorite because I have been chasing the nougat for years. Finally I have her in my grasp. She shan't get away again!
Me- My second favorite, a very smooth candy bar.

Jokerz:
Jenny K- Just like I remember Snickers.
Dave Laser- Not normally into peanuts as candy.
Princess Lasertron- *sample stolen* WTF?
Veganette- This could make one man weep and another man cry. In a good way!
Me- Nutty and sweet! Nice for a noontime snack.

Twilight:
Jenny K- Super caramel flavor! It's my close second.
Dave Laser- Very similar to Milky Way but without the garbage.
Princess Lasertron- Too much caramel- like a Rolo. Chocolate gum!
Veganette- I love it but it tastes more caramel than nougat. I would like these in a box of chocolates.
Me- The best. It restores my faith in the Vegan diet. We can make ANYTHING Vegan.

Winners:
Jenny K- Mahalo
Dave Laser- Mahalo
Princess Lasertron- Mahalo
Veganette- Buccaneer
Me- Twilight

By a clear majority, Mahalo wins the crown. Thanks to everyone who participated and of course special thanks to Go Max Go for making Vegans happy!
