Sweet & Sara Halloween Marshmallows Treats

Happy Halloween everyone! Without a doubt, Halloween is my favorite holiday. Candy, costumes, scary movies and jack-o-lanterns...what's  not to love? Sweet & Sara Halloween Marshmallow Treats are quickly becoming a Vegan tradition. Marshmallow Spiders, Bats, Ghosts and Cats are the standard for decadent Halloween loving Vegans. And you can't forget about Pumpkin Spice Marshmallows, Chocolate Dipped Pumpkin Spice Pumpkin, Marshmallow Pops or the Chocolate Dipped Rice Crispy Treats. I hope you got to try one or all of these treats this season. If not, there is still time! I mean, really it's never to late since everyday is Halloween as far as I'm concerned.

And this brings us to the last day of Vegan MoFo 2012! Thank you to everyone who followed me this month while I blogged my little heart out. Between the posts I did here, I also blogged for Vegan MoFo and Vegan Omaha. Quite the busy month! I hope you had as much fun as I did. Enjoy the rest of your Halloween and watch the Magic Pumpkin....watch....

Sweet & Sara Peanut Butter Smore

Welcome to Vegan MoFo VI! I can't believe this is my third MoFo. For those who aren't familiar with my blog, I review Vegan convenience foods. It's not rocket science, but it's stuff I eat anyway and I enjoy doing it. So with that said, I'm going to review one of my all time favorite treats, the Sweet & Sara Peanut Butter Smore!

As a lot of you know, I'm a Sweet & Sara Smore freak. I seriously eat two of these a week, minimum. I convinced Whole Foods Omaha to carry them, thank god. Eating a PB Smore is euphoric to me. Is it health food? Hell no. But that's what the gym is for. Everyone deserves a vice.

Peanut buttery, marshmallowy, chocolaty, graham crackery goodness. The first bite is always the best. As I get closer to the end of the smore, I get a little sad inside. Did I eat enough smore? Probably not. Should I eat another one? That's always the struggle.

I don't have a rating or anything on my blog, but I would give this the highest rating possible. Like 20 marshmallow thumbs up. And then some.

The Vegan Easter Bunny 2012

It's hard to believe it, but Easter is almost upon us. The Vegan Easter Bunny is all packed up and ready to deliver his basket of goodies. This year I found a couple of new things that, if you act quickly, can be part of your Easter celebration! But let's start with an old favorite...

Sweet and Sara Easter Peepers & Skippers. I'm not sure how you can have Easter without these! Sweet, sugary marshmallow to remind you of your childhood.

Lagusta's Luscious English Cream Egg. A Vegan version of the Cadburry Egg is one of the most requested candies ever. Lagusta comes through with a decadent cream filled organic chocolate egg. The gooey white and yellow center is divine.

Yum Earth Naturals Sour Beans. A delicious new twist on an Easter classic! I'm seriously addicted to these. They remind me of Tearjerkers (which I used to buy in bulk in the early 90's) but in jellybean form. Buy at least two bags, trust me.

Candy Tree Organic Mixed Fruit Toffee. These are some really unique toffees! Flavored by fruit juices and made with organic ingredients, these will be a hit with kids and adults. The five flavors are black current, cherry, lemon, strawberry and orange.

Divvies Super Stars. Mmmm! Little star jellies that have popsicle flavors. I swear, you will think that you are eating orange, grape, lime, cherry or lemon popsicles! So good.

Lagusta's Luscious Chocolate Matzo Toffee. And last but not least, I wanted a treat for all of you that are celebrating Passover. These are off the hook crazy! I've had motzo, but nothing like this. Motzo with toffee and chocolate drippings will make anyone go Jewish!

Vegan Valentine's Day 2012!

It's that time of year again and I'm back with my Valentine's Day picks. You still have 11 days to get your loved one some sweets. And if you don't have a honey, don't forget about your Moms! She misses you and wishes you would stop by more often.

Sweet & Sara Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Marshmallow Hearts. Sara is back with her Strawberry Marshmallow Hearts, but this time they are HUGE! Buy at least two so you can eat one. And buy me a pb smore while you are at it.

Obsessive Confection Disorder I Lubz U Sampler. This cute sampler from Obsessive Confection Disorder is the real deal. You get the Hippy Dippy Crispy Treats, Rose Caramel, Vanilla Bean Caramel and Caramel Not Corn. All of that PLUS 25% of the proceeds goes to Animal Rescue Corps. Shockingly it's only $20. The caramels have gold leaf, people! The chocolate heart here is made of toffee and crisp rice and the red heart lollypops are hard toffee, perfect for sucking on.

Sjaak's Valentine's Day Organic Vegan Truffle Assortment Birdie Box. Once again, I have a Sjakk's box of candies in my V-Day arsenal. This years variety of truffles: Vegan Milk Hazelnut, Dark Chocolate, Vegan Milk Cappuccino, Vegan Milk Pecan Cinnamon, Dark Pistachio, Vegan Milk Almond, Dark Orange Mate, Dark Coconut & Ginger and Dark Cherry.

Cookies for Me Valentine Heart Iced Vegan Sugar Cookies. I haven't had a real sugar cookie in FOREVER, so I was ecstatic that these were so good. If you miss those yummy sugar cookies you grew up with, these are it.

Surf Sweets Organic Fruity Gummi Hearts. What would Valentine's Day be without some kind of tiny heart candy? No chalky ones for me this year, but I've got gummi ones! Watermelon and cherry flavored, to be exact. <3 <3 <3

Sweet & Sara Holiday Marshamallows

It's that time of year again. Snow, hot cocoa, runny noses and Christmas. On the bright side, Sweet & Sara has made some adorable holiday treats that every Vegan will love!

Mr. (or Ms.) Marshmallow Snowman.

Marshmallow Reindeer. Is it Rudolph?

Choco-Peppermint Marshmallows. Silky chocolate delicious cubes of magic!

Marshmallow Snowflake. I enjoy the marshmallow version more than the real thing.

Marshmallow Star of David. So who is David anyway?

And last but not least is the Peppermint Mallow Bark. It's to die for- the chips of candy cane mixed with the marshmallows and chocolate is just too much.

The Laziest Vegans Top Ten Asks Sara Sohn

Sara Sohn is the genius behind the Vegan marshmallow company Sweet & Sara. She has been making Vegans happy since 2005 with some of the most delicious and decadent desserts out there, from her peanut butter smore to her rice crispy treat. Vegan since 13, Sara set out to fill the Vegan marshmallow void. Taking over a year to get the perfect recipe, she unleashed her marshmallows unto the public. Now Sara shares with us her favorite Vegan goodies (besides her own of course!). It is with extreme pleasure that I bring you Sara Sohn!

What is your favorite store-bought veggie burger?
Not into veggie burgers too much but if Boca is grilled right it can be pretty darn good. I'm more of Chik'n burger kinda gal – the Boca Chik'n patties are awesome.

What is your favorite frozen dinner?
I used to live on Celentano Eggplant Rollettes but I think those don’t exist anymore but who cares because Tofurky Pizza is where it’s at. I cried when I first had one. Mmm

What is your favorite ice cream?
There’s nothing like Lula’s. I've trekked through blizzards, braved horrendous rainstorms, and endured blistering heat waves just to get my ice cream fix, no joke – it’s one of the happiest places on Earth. I'm there every Friday – see you there? When I cant get to Lula’s, I go for Purely Decadent coconut based Vanilla or Turtle Trails – near perfection.

What is your favorite chip or cracker?
Oh man, I'm a sucker for chips. Wanna be my bestie? Get me a bag of Lays BBQ chips or Tings. EcoPlanet “cheddar” crackers are crazy dangerous, I've eaten an entire box in one sitting and then eyed the other one.

What is your favorite cereal?
Peanut Butter Panda Puffs + Gorilla Munch + almond milk =breakfast of chimpions. I mean champions.

What is your favorite candy?
Besides Sweet & Sara vegan marshmallow goodness? Go Max’s Peanut Butter Cleos, Eli’s butterfingers, and Skittles, now that they’re gelatin free!

What is your favorite cookie?
Not too exciting but I think Whole Foods makes the best chocolate chip cookie ever. And Im obsessed with the Q-bel chocolate hazelnut wafer cookies.

What three pre-packaged food items would you take to a desert island?
Alright, here we go. Guacamole. Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut butter. Tofurky’s Hickory Smoked Turkey Deli Slices.

Name a product you would like Veganized?
Spam – I know, so nasty but I loved spam! I miss omelettes too. I also haven’t had a good white chocolate bar.

What are your favorite local and/or online stores for Vegan products?
Food Fight Grocery, Vegan Essentials, Cosmos Vegan Shoppe, and Pangea for online shopping and Lifethyme + Whole Foods for local shopping.

And that concludes The Laziest Vegans Top Ten. Thanks Sara!

Sweet & Sara Strikes Again!

As most of you know, I love Sweet & Sara. Eating a Peanut Butter Smore for the first time was a life altering experience. Whenever I get a chance, I try to buy a smore or a package of marshmallows to tied me over. Recently, Sweet & Sara had an online sale and I noticed some new products I haven't tried yet, so here is some stuff that's new or at least new to me!

Cinnamon Hazelnut Biscotti. A yummy little cinnamon cookie with bits of hazelnut.

Mocha Almond Biscotti. Chocolaty cookie goodness with bits of almond.

Graham Crackers. The perfect accessory for Sweet & Sara Marshmallows.

Coconut Macaroons. The classic returns in Vegan form! Coconutty heaven.

Mini Smores. As good as the original, only smaller.

Rocky Road Bark. Yummy chocolate mixed with marshmallows and almonds. I would have to say this is a new favorite. A nice combination of all this things you love about Sweet & Sara.

If Sweet & Sara isn't available in you area (request it!) follow Sweet & Sara on Facebook and Twitter for to get the first word on any special online sales.

The Vegan Easter Bunny

I really didn't want to do an Easter candy post because I'm still on a sugar high from Valentine's Day but I saw Vegansaurus's post about Vegan Cadbury Eggs and I fiended out. If someone were to ask me what I missed from my pre-Vegan days, I would say Cadbury Eggs. So I wasted no time and ordered the gang of Easter candy from Pangea.

So these are the VeganSweets Vanilla Cream Eggs aka Vegan Cadbury Eggs. They are delicious and do taste similar to the real thing. Sweet and creamy just like I remember. I wish they had the yellow yoke like the Vegan Etsy ones but that's just nitpicking. I totally give these two thumbs up!

Next up is Sweet & Sara Easter Peepers & Skippers. A faithful reproduction of Peeps only better! Sara has reformulated the marshmallow recipe and it's better than before. On the packaging it says "Skipper is the name of Sara's childhood rabbit and is Sweet & Sara's mascot." How cute is that!

Who doesn't love a big chocolate easter bunny? This Chocolate Happy Bunny is made out of pure Belgian chocolate. I'm saving it for a friend who is going to house-sit for me but I'm sure it's delicious.

You really can't have Easter without jellybeans. I can't even remember the last time I had one. VeganSweets Jellybeans are fantastic and no one will notice that they are Vegan.

These Dandies Tweets are similar to the Sweet & Sara's Peepers but they have a lemon flavor. I really loved them! The lemony flavor was nice and tangy and had me wanting more.

Sjakk's Crunchy Peanut Butter Easter Egg rounds out the treats from the Vegan Easter Bunny. Beautifully decorated and packaged, I would describe it as a gourmet Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. So darn good!

Sweet & Sara Marshmallows

The first time I ever had something from Sweet & Sara was in February 2009. I was in Milwaukee for a Cradle of Filth/ Satyricon concert and I was lucky enough to visit the Vegan Essentials warehouse. Once inside, I bought every single Vegan item I've always wanted, like Supermarket Sweepstakes. I spotted some Sweet & Sara Smores in a refrigerator. I'd heard about Sweet & Sara goodies but there was no place in Omaha to purchase them (still isn't!) and I was always reluctant about ordering temperature sensitive food. I remember when I opened up the smore and sank my teeth in...whoa! So decadent and so good. Long story short, I always have that memory when I talk about Sweet & Sara. My second encounter with Sweet & Sara was in Hawaii where I got the Toasted Coconut Marshmallows. Delicious! That box was gone in like a hour. Anyways, I really love Sweet & Sara and I hope the Whole Foods in Omaha wakes up and starts carrying her stuff.

The Sweet & Sara Peanut Butter Smore. I think if the world knew being Vegan doesn't limit you from eating something like this, we'd have it made. Yummy chocolate covered graham cookie with a peanut butter and marshmallow filling. Dear lord.

Sweet & Sara's Mini Marshmallows. They taste super close to the ones I ate as a kid and tiny enough for a warm mug of cocoa!

Sweet & Sara's Strawberry Marshmallows. A gourmet marshmallow that has real strawberries. Very strawberrish and very good! I've heard a rumor of them being seasonal but as of January 9th, I can find them all over online.

The Sweet & Sara Variety Sampler. In the sampler you get Vanilla, Roasted Coconut, Cinnamon Pecan and Strawberry. These are really nice if you can't commit to just one flavor. Out of the four, I'm gonna have to say the Cinnamon Pecan was my favorite. It could be because I've never had it before, or it was just that good.

Portland Binge: Part One

While most of you grilled out your veggies in 90 degree heat I froze my butt off in Florence, OR. But the exciting part of my trip out west was a trip to Food Fight in Portland. As you may have seen before, I go ape shit when I shop there. Here are some of my finds.

A nifty little bag to throw my shit in.

These look so cute that I had to buy them. The turtle cup is swell.
These Sjaak's Organic Chocolates looked equally as cute. I no eaty, gifts.

Bernod's Organic Cotton Candy. It was grape and obviously Vegan grape cotton candy must be eaten.

These are Vegan white chocolate chips. If you want to be a baking all-star you pretty much need these.

Sweet & Sara is amazing as usual so this was a no brainer.

Ironically it's freakin' hot in Portland today so I'm not able to fix these BUT I'm told they are fantastic. They gots that Daiya.
