My Visit to Vegan Treats!

Ever since I became Vegan, I've had a list of holy grails I wanted to visit. Chicago Diner, Candle 79 and the Vegan Mini-Mall all got checked off a while ago. But the one place that has been eluding me is Vegan Treats in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I've always wanted to go to Philly to run up the Rocky Steps so I knew Vegan Treats would happen eventually. You'll even remember I got the owner, Danielle Konya, to take The Laziest Vegans Top Ten.

But one thing you have to realize is that Bethlehem is 60 miles away from Philly and you are going to need a car. Or at the very least, have a good bus route. Luckily my buddy Louzilla picked me up at the airport and took me right to Vegan Treats.

Vegan Treats isn't a huge place, but the selection is! Tons of mini-cakes, cookies, donuts, rolls, cannoli, ice cream, etc. It's super overwhelming! I'm sure the employees see wide-eyed stares day in, day out.

When I went, Halloween was just around the corner. Some really amazing mini-cakes. Works of art!

 Boo!

 Grrr.

The one thing I had been craving is their ice cream. Today their flavor was Chocolate and Cake. Such an amazing combo!

I've had their cannoli before from mail order and OMG, life changing! Delicious donuts too.

I had to say bye to Vegan Treats fairly quickly, but I bought a bunch of cookies to bring back to home for Omaha Vegan Drinks. Everyone loved them! Duh...

The amount of joy Vegan Treats brings to people is unreal. The fact that so many different kinds of dessert can be made Vegan is reassuring. I'm happy to finally say I've stepped through those doors. Make sure you make a point to visit soon!

So Delicious Candy Corn & Pumpkin Spice Frozen Desserts

Along with the Coco Whip, So Delicious sent these awesome Halloween treats! Candy Corn & Pumpkin Spice Coconut Milk Frozen Desserts. Halloween-specific treats are always going to catch my attention. These just scream fun and I couldn't wait to try them out. I found them at my local Whole Foods the other day, so be on the lookout in your area!

The Candy Corn pop was the most elaborate and my favorite of the two. The tip is dipped in chocolate followed by vanilla then orange flavored ice cream. It was dreamy! This honestly should be sold year-round, but maybe I'll appreciate it more (like the nog) if they take it away after Halloween. A Vegan work of art.

The Pumpkin Spice pop was excellent as well, but very simple. The flavor is definitely pumpkin (shockingly) but it's a pumped up pumpkin. Sure, a little chocolate dip would have been nice, but pumpkin lovers will go gaga. The cute shape is appreciated.

Thank you again to So Delicious for sending me all of these seasonal goodies (including the nog, which is in non-refrigerated packaging this year.) The key to Veganism is to make it fun and inviting and I can't think of a better way that Halloween treats. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Jones Halloween Sodas

Growing up, we always had soda available in our house. I thought it was pretty normal to drink soda every night with dinner. But sometime in my early 20's, I had to stay late at work and I ate a boatload of Sweet Tarts and chugged a 24 oz Pepsi. The sickness that resulted still lives with me today. Yes, I'll have a Virgil's Root Beer or Cream Soda once in a while, but that's it. No Pepsi, no Coke, no Mountain Dew...yuck.

So where am I going with this? Well, Dinosaur Dracula, a blog I'm very fond off, posted about the Jones Soda Halloween flavors: Caramel Apple, Candy Corn, Blood Orange and Red Licorice. Matt blogs or vlogs about all kinds of cool stuff (toys, candy, you name it) from the 80's, 90's and all the way to the present. Right now he's doing a Halloween countdown, hence the Jones Sodas. I thought, "Boy, I wish Jones Sodas were Vegan," because I'm really jealous of some of the cool stuff he blogs about plus I love Halloween. How the heck do you NOT drink a soda called Candy Corn? ...Bueller? Bueller?

I know Jones Sodas are one of the more "natural" sodas out there, but I had to double check they were Vegan. After a couple emails to Jones Soda, sure enough, they're Vegan! Well, great, so the hard part is out of the way. I'm going to get my Halloween soda on! But will this soda-hating 35-year old like them?

Unfortunately, the novelty of Halloween sodas could not overcome my soda bias. All of the flavors were really one note. If I had to pick a favorite, I would go with the Candy Corn Soda. To me, it tasted Cream Soda-ish and very sweet. Not something you would want a lot of, but nice as a Halloween treat. Next favorite would be the Caramel Apple Soda. It definitely tastes like apple, not so sure about the caramel. Blood Orange is your typical orange soda, nothing special. And my least favorite was the Red Licorice Soda. Wow. It seemed like a demented bubble gum with the worst aftertaste ever.

In closing, these Jones Halloween Sodas are definitely more of a gimmick that anything else. They might be cool for a Halloween party, but that's about it. BOO.

No Whey! Halloween Chocolates

One of the drawbacks of having Vegan MoFo in September is less Halloween blogging. I'm hoping to remedy that with this No Whey! Chocolates Halloween post. I've known about No Whey! for about a year and I love their seasonal treats. They're straight outta Cleveland, so I can feel the Midwest Vegan love. Here's a few of the Halloween goodies they have to offer this year!

These Spooky's Oh's are Newman O's dipped in light chocolate. On top of the cookie is a little Halloween ghost or bat. As you can see, I had to have a little taste during the photo session. Holy crap are these good! I can't tell you the Weight Watchers points on these, but boy is it ever worth it.

The Nut Butter Crisps are big chocolate bars with a nut toffee added to the bar. I was going to compare it to another candy but I'm at a loss. If you like chocolate and nuts, you'd probably dig these.

The Rice Crisps remind me of Nestle Crunch bars, only smaller size. Every trick or treaters dream! Do yourself a favor and check out No Whey! Chocolates today!

Sweet & Sara Halloween Marshmallows Treats

Happy Halloween everyone! Without a doubt, Halloween is my favorite holiday. Candy, costumes, scary movies and jack-o-lanterns...what's  not to love? Sweet & Sara Halloween Marshmallow Treats are quickly becoming a Vegan tradition. Marshmallow Spiders, Bats, Ghosts and Cats are the standard for decadent Halloween loving Vegans. And you can't forget about Pumpkin Spice Marshmallows, Chocolate Dipped Pumpkin Spice Pumpkin, Marshmallow Pops or the Chocolate Dipped Rice Crispy Treats. I hope you got to try one or all of these treats this season. If not, there is still time! I mean, really it's never to late since everyday is Halloween as far as I'm concerned.

And this brings us to the last day of Vegan MoFo 2012! Thank you to everyone who followed me this month while I blogged my little heart out. Between the posts I did here, I also blogged for Vegan MoFo and Vegan Omaha. Quite the busy month! I hope you had as much fun as I did. Enjoy the rest of your Halloween and watch the Magic Pumpkin....watch....

So Delicious Pumpkin Spice Coconut Milk

No bones about it, So Delicious is one of my favorite brands. From ice cream, to yogurts and almond milk, So Delicious lives up to their brand name. They recently asked if I was interested in trying their new Pumpkin Spice Coconut Milk. Uhh, yeah!!! It's totally the perfect time of year to be drinking this stuff. I wasn't in the Halloween mood till I had a swig of the Pumpkin Spice. Now I'm decorating the house and everything!

In fact, ghosts will be fighting off other ghosts just to get a sip of the new Pumpkin Spice Coconut Milk! My first impression was that I was drinking pumpkin pie, no lie. A spicy pumpkin pie that was pureed with coconut milk and put in a carton. Decadent liquid dessert! Unless you absolutely hate pumpkin, you're going to want to buy it by the case.

So Delicious also sent their other holiday Coconut Milks: Nog and Mint Chocolate! I reviewed them last year and I LOVE them. So if for some reason you don't like pumpkin, Nog or Mint Chocolate will be right up your alley. Thanks again to So Delicious for making the lives of Vegans so very delicious!

Divvies Halloween Candy

I reviewed some chocolate bars from Divvies earlier this week and it got me thinking, what else do they make that I might like? Well, I headed over to their online shop and I found some pretty cool Halloween candy. Not that I need more Halloween candy, but you might!

How about a couple of Vegan chocolate ghosts? Hell yes! The same great chocolate as the Divvine Chocolate Bar. Yummy.

How about a Vegan chocolate dinosaur? Kids will love this. It's so cute!

My favorite discovery is this blue rock candy. It tastes like cotton candy!!! I know it's pure sugar but yum city! LOVE IT.

All Hallow's Eve

Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday. I have so many great memories attached to Halloween such as dressing up in my costume for school, going door to door for candy with my brother, watching lots of scary movies and carving the pumpkin with my Mom. I can trace back my childhood by what costume I wore that year, ie: Chewbacca/1982, Admiral Ackbar/1983, Fake Voltron/1984, Real Voltron/1985, Rambo/1986+1987, Darth Vader 1988, ect. I miss those Ben Cooper costumes even though they were safety hazards and everything.

Well now I'm the old fart handing out treats to kids! On a recent trip to Whole Foods I picked up some candy. Most importantly I wanted the candy to be Vegan, but I also wanted it to be good. The worst thing in the world would be for a kid to throw the candy back at me.

The Yummy Earth Organic Lollipops are making a return appearance. They really are some delicious lollipops. By the end of the night, all of the candy bags were gone and tiny goblins were happy .

So this was my first Vegan MoFo post! As you can tell I'm pretty much a once a month blogger but I'll try my best to do 20 posts this month. I'm excited to see other people's blogs! Check out http://veganmofo.wordpress.com/ for more info.
